24 color pages, published 2017
July Fireworks is a new and original pattern from the mind of Judy Martin, the most prolific quilt pattern designer in the world. Judy cleverly mixes stars and Flying Geese units to create a Wedding Ring effect. Done up in red, white, and blue, as the queen version is shown, gives it a decidedly patriotic feel for Americans who love to celebrate the Fourth of July. When done in the colors of the wedding party, July Fireworks would make the perfect wedding gift. It’s an attractive design in any color scheme.
This 24-page pattern is the new standard for pattern completeness and excellence. Judy Martin draws upon nearly 4 decades of designing, writing and publishing patterns to provide pages of useful information on how to make this quilt or any quilt easily, accurately, and with a minimum of fuss. For example, this pattern includes a seam allowance test you can perform, along with instructions on how to get your seam allowance perfect every time. Once you have an accurate seam allowance, every quilt you make will go together more easily, look better, and provide a more satisfying sewing experience. She explains in clear language exactly how to use this pattern to make a quilt you can display or gift with pride.
July Fireworks comes in 2 sizes: 96” x 96” and 51” x 51”. It has patch counts, yardage, cutting diagrams, exploded piecing diagrams, quilt construction diagrams, an alternate coloring, detailed instructions, and tips and helpful hints. This quilt is fat-quarter friendly.
Judy rates her patterns with 1-3 rotary cutters, spools, and light bulbs to show how easy or challenging the cutting, sewing, and thinking are, with 1 being the easiest. July Fireworks is rated 2 rotary cutters. It requires cutting triangles. It’s rated 2 spools because you’ll be sewing a lot of triangles. The queen-size quilt is rated 3 light bulbs because it has a lot of units and component parts to keep organized. The wall-size quilt is just two light bulbs. If you’re comfortable with triangles and can keep yourself organized, July Fireworks is a breeze.
